FAQs on LASIK Surgery:

What is LASIK?

LASIK stands for “Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis”. This procedure aims to correct vision by using a laser to reshape the inner cornea. LASIK surgery has long been effective in treating myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and other eye conditions. And LASIK surgery always uses the latest advancements in eye care technology, providing faster recovery times and precise results each year.

Could I Benefit from LASIK?

People who regularly wear glasses or contact lenses may wonder if correcting their vision via LASIK surgery is a good choice for them. While not everyone is a candidate for LASIK, it does have some great advantages. People who play sports, have allergies, or who are looking for simplicity will all benefit from LASIK. To learn more about LASIK and your vision, call Bay Family Eye Care today at 410-796-4555.

How Can Bay Family Eye Care Help with Your LASIK Procedure?

At Bay Family Eye Care, we provide evaluations and referrals for patients interested in LASIK surgery. A current, professional eye exam is important to determining if you are a candidate for LASIK surgery and if there are any other factors that may affect your results. That’s where we come in! Our doctors can perform a complete review of your patient history as well as a full assessment of your eye health and vision. The history review helps our optometrist team determine if your prescription is stable and you are healthy enough to consider surgery.

What Should I Expect if I am a Possible Candidate for LASIK?

Once our doctors have performed the evaluation and determined whether you are a candidate for LASIK, you will be given a referral to the nearby LASIK surgery center that we have historically worked with. The center will perform advanced diagnostic testing and will evaluate your eligibility for surgery. Additionally, various surgery options will be discussed with you during your visit.

During your visit to the surgery center, we will be in correspondence with your new care team regarding your evaluation and surgical determination.

What Will Happen if I am Approved for LASIK?

Once your surgery is scheduled at our partner surgical center, we will schedule your follow-up appointments here in our office. Typically, you will begin these follow-ups the day after the surgery and continue to come in at prearranged times over the following six months.

After 1 year, a full exam is recommended to fully evaluate the long-term results of your procedure.

At Bay Family Eye Care, we provide comprehensive care to meet the vision needs of our patients. Our doctors are experienced in working with patients pre- and post-operation, and will answer any questions that you have along the way. To learn more about LASIK and to discuss whether it may be a good fit for your vision needs, call Bay Family Eye Care today at 410-796-4555.
